Hyderabadβs theatre scene has changed a lot in the last few years. Earlier, most people didnβt really care about formats, a big screen and loud sound were enough. Now, things are different. People are starting to notice projection quality, brightness, contrast, and how well the sound is tuned.
Flat aspect ratio screens (1.85:1 and similar) are a big part of that shift. Not every film is shot in scope. A lot of Hollywood films, animated movies, and even some Indian films use flat ratios. On the right screen, these movies look properly filled, without black bars eating into the image.
Hereβs a grounded look at the top flat AR screens in Hyderabad, based on actual setup, not just branding.
Prasads PCX (Screen 6)
PCX at Prasads is easily the biggest flat screen in the city. The size alone makes it stand out, roughly 101.6 ft wide and 64 ft tall. Thatβs not something you see anywhere else in Hyderabad.
It uses dual Barco DP4K-60L laser projectors, and the setup is tuned for Dolby Atmos. The projection is bright, and more importantly, consistent across the entire screen. On a screen this large, that matters a lot.
This is one of those places where scale actually changes how a film feels. Even average scenes look bigger than life. For properly mastered content, it can be seriously impressive.
Of course, itβs not perfect. Seating distance and viewing angles matter more here because of the size. But overall, this is still the top pick if you want a true large-format flat screen experience.
Allu Cinemas β Dolby Cinema (Screen 1)
Allu Cinemas brought a proper Dolby Cinema setup to Hyderabad, and it shows. The screen is about 75 ft Γ 40.5 ft, which is a solid size for a flat ratio.
Projection is handled by dual Christie E3LH projectors with Dolby Vision. Thatβs where the difference comes in β contrast, blacks, and highlight control are noticeably better than standard laser projection.
The audio setup is also not basic Atmos. Itβs a custom speaker layout (around 72 speakers, mapped to 64 channels), which feels tighter and more precise.
Compared to PCX, this isnβt about size. Itβs more about picture quality and consistency. If you care about HDR and overall polish, this is easily one of the best options in the city.
Prasads β Screen 4 (HDR by Barco)
This screen doesnβt get as much attention as PCX, but itβs technically strong. The size is around 59.2 ft Γ 31.3 ft, which falls into premium large format territory.
The highlight here is the Barco LS4K-20 HDR projector. HDR projection is still rare in theatres, and when itβs properly calibrated, it adds noticeable depth to the image.
Dolby Atmos is part of the setup, and sound performance is reliable. This screen works especially well for films that benefit from better contrast and color detail.
Prasads β Screen 3 (4K Laser)
Screen 3 at Prasads uses a Barco flagship laser projector, with a similar screen size to Screen 4. Itβs not HDR, but brightness and clarity are still strong.
Audio is handled by a QSC system instead of Atmos, which is a step down in terms of spatial sound. But for general viewing, it still performs decently.
This is more of a backup premium screen, not the best in the complex, but still better than many standalone theatres.
ART Cinemas β EPIQ PLF (Screen 6)
ART Cinemas has been trying to position its EPIQ screen as a premium format, and itβs actually a decent setup.
The screen size is around 57 ft Γ 30 ft, with a Barco SP4K-55B laser projector and Dolby Atmos sound. Itβs not massive, but the experience feels balanced.
This is the kind of screen where you donβt notice major issues. It doesnβt push boundaries, but it does everything properly.
PVR Inorbit β PXL (Audi 6)
PVRβs PXL format is more about branding, but the underlying setup is solid. The screen here is around 55 ft Γ 29 ft, using a Barco SP4K-35B RGB laser projector with Dolby Atmos.
Compared to older PVR screens, brightness and clarity are noticeably better. Seating comfort is also a factor here, which adds to the overall experience.
Allu Cinemas β Screens 2, 3, 4
Apart from the main Dolby Cinema screen, Allu Cinemas has three more screens with similar specs.
Each of these uses Barco SP4K-35B laser projection, with screen sizes around 46 ft Γ 24.8 ft. All three support Dolby Atmos.
These are not large-format screens, but theyβre consistent. Good brightness, decent sound, and overall reliable performance. For regular viewing, theyβre more than enough.
AAA Cinemas β EPIQ LED Screen (Screen 2)
This one is different from everything else here. Instead of projection, AAA Cinemas uses a direct LED screen. The size is much smaller, around 30 ft Γ 16 ft, but the technology changes how the image looks.
Since itβs self-emissive, brightness and contrast are on another level. Blacks are true black, and colors pop more. Thereβs no projector involved, so issues like light falloff donβt exist.
That said, the smaller size means it doesnβt feel like a βbig screenβ experience. Itβs more about image quality than scale.
If you simplify everything:
- Best for size β PCX at Prasads
- Best picture quality β Dolby Cinema at Allu Cinemas
- Best HDR experience β Prasads Screen 4
- Best balanced multiplex screen β PVR PXL / ART EPIQ
- Most unique tech β AAA EPIQ LED
Thereβs no single winner across all categories. It depends on what you care about.
If you want pure scale, PCX is still unmatched. If you want controlled, high-contrast visuals, Dolby Cinema is the better choice. And if youβre curious about new display tech, LED screens are worth trying.
Hyderabad is slowly getting to a point where you can actually pick your theatre based on the kind of experience you want, not just location or ticket price. Thatβs a good place to be.
